Fraud in the Nordics: One Region, Many Differences

Nordic countries consistently rank in the top 10 list of the happiest countries in the world, but that does not insulate the region’s banks, businesses and consumers from the continued threat of fraud. The Nordics are not alone. Fraud is a global issue, with an estimated cost that could reach $40.62 billion by 2027.

Organizations continue to struggle under the weight of escalating attacks. Human-initiated attack rates across all industries globally increased 19% in 2023. In the Nordic countries, several factors make the region a ripe target for fraud: a high standard of living (with greater purchasing power), a well-developed digital banking infrastructure, low reliance on cash, and high internet penetration.
