In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, he discusses optimization of administrative and technical controls. “I like to take a layered approach to technical controls,” he says. “You want to make sure you’re baselining and blocking at the network layer. When you get deviations from the baseline, you need to dig a bit deeper. ... Then you need to make sure you have the right email protections at the endpoints.”

In the interview, Ford also discusses:

  • Why email security is still one of the weakest links in the security chain;
  • How organizations should review their approach to identity and access management;
  • The growing importance of CASB technology;
  • How organizations can achieve a passwordless environment.

Before joining Unilever as CISO, Ford was the CISO at Abbott Labs, a global life sciences company. Before that, he worked in the aerospace and defense industries. As a soldier in the U.S. Army, he was an information security analyst for the Pentagon Computer Incident Response Team.
