Raising the Bar on Browser Security

Pieter Arntz of Malwarebytes on the Gaps Enterprises Overlook
Raising the Bar on Browser Security

When it comes to browser security, one mistake made by consumers and enterprise alike is that they see the browser as a one-way window into the internet. The reality is quite different - and potentially costly if overlooked, says Pieter Arntz of Malwarebytes.

Users see the internet solely as a source of information coming in, says Arntz, lead intelligence reporter at Malwarebytes. "[But] in reality, a lot of information goes out as well," he says. "The users only see the pictures and the stories that they look for, but they don't see the underlying code that is making it happen ... it also could be sucking information from them."

In an interview about browser security, Arntz discusses:

  • What enterprises and consumers often overlook;
  • Why he dislikes push notifications;
  • How to increase privacy while browsing.

Arntz was a Microsoft MVP in consumer security for 12 years running. Can speak four languages and program in a few more. Believes user education should always be the first step on the path to security. Working for Malwarebytes for over nine years.
